Once the block is broken
apart from the deposit, it is transported to a cutting
and finishing facility, often half way round the world.
The next step is to transform the block
into slabs or sheets which are ultimately going to become
work surfaces, cladding or floors.
The massive block is put through a
gang-saw which will slice the block into 20 to 30 sheets.
Once a sheet is produced it will undergo
a finishing process, for example, polishing or honing. In
the case of polishing, this is done in several stages starting
with a very coarse grit through to a super fine one that will
make the surface look like a mirror.
