Granite is one of the hardest
natural materials on earth - only diamonds and quartz
are harder. It is formed by the slow hardening or crystallisation
of molten rock under the earth's crust. Granite is
the result mountains colliding and is
often composed of several different mineral deposits.
The combination and amounts of
these minerals give a granite its colour. The name given to
a granite often refers to the area from which it originates
or to that colour (e.g. Venetian Gold,)
Suitable applications
Granite is a favoured stone in the production of kitchen worksurfaces
due to its superior hardness, heat resistance and variety of colour.
But it can also
be used to produce wonderful exterior landscape projects such
as water features or swimming pool surrounds using a flamed textured non slip finish.
It has immense load bearing strength and can span bridges.
