Slate is sedimentary rock,
usually a fine mudstone that was hardened by compression
and heat.
It has a quality that enables
it to be split into sheets and has been used in roofing for
hundreds of years. Slate can scratch but is easily re-honed
or re-oiled to restore its desired state.
Suitable applications
Slate can be wonderfully textural when honed or riven and
provides a fantastic sculptural surface to floors.
In its honed form slate will
make a quiet yet beautiful statement in kitchen worksurfaces.
